I recently completed an exercise that was mainly about showing local businesses how to take control of their Google Places listing with the aim of placing them in the relevant categories for their business. With a little research and a little work it can put a business in front of a very targetted crowd of web searchers. I created two videos – one for local law firms and the other for local real estate agents. I then sent emails to 15 local businesses in those fields, telling them where they could view the video and what it was all about.
Out of those 15 businesses I didn’t receive a single response either via email or telephone.
That tells me that there is a serious lack of information out there. Perhaps business owners see their website as one of those things that they have to have ‘because everyone else has one’, rather than using it as a marketing tool. Did you know that ‘ballarat property’ is the most searched term for Ballarat? It gets around 90,000 searches each month and most local real estate agents aren’t seeing any of that traffic. Do you know how many local people are searching for your services and is your website coming up in the local business listings?
We optimised our own listing a month or so ago. Do a Google search for ‘Ballarat tech support’ or ‘Ballarat internet marketing’ and you will see us listed in the local business listings.
